So who invented the television?
To tell exactly who invented the television, one cannot really be sure. The invention of the television actually stemmed from the idea of the radio, where since sound could travel through airwaves, it was possible for images as well.
The idea came about in December 2, 1922, where Edwin Berlin demonstrated in Sorbonne France a type of mechanical device that is said to be what the early television set was. However, its technology is very different from the technology you see today. The device was able to capture an image or actual flashes of light which were then sent through a selenium element connected to another device that was able to produce sound. However, because it was nothing like the modern ones, people do not acknowledge him as the person who invented the television. But there are another two candidates that people acknowledge.
One would be Vladmir Kosma Zworykin, a Russian born American who worked for a technology company in America. The other would be Philo Taylor Farnsworth from Utah. They had both worked on creating a television from different places. However, Zworykin managed to get the patent from the US government for his creation in 1923, but Farnsworth created true television picture, which is used in the televisions of today, where an image would be scanned electronically and broken up into small light particles that could be transmitted through sound waves and returned to their original form in a television set. While both inventors are stuck in a debate of who truly invented the television, both can be credited for their contribution to today’s television.
